A celebration of stories that inspire connection and community.

Inspire Author Series: Words That Build Bridges — A Conversation with Andrew Snorton

At the Inspire Author Series, we celebrate authors who use their words to connect, challenge, and inspire. This week, we feature Andrew Snorton, an Illinois-born, New Jersey-raised, Metro Atlanta–based author whose work spans genres — from poetry and testimony to sports, reflection, and beyond. With four books, five audiobooks, a growing podcast platform, and even his own coffee line, Andrew’s work demonstrates the power of storytelling to reach people where they are and invite them to think, feel, and connect in deeper ways.

Q: What inspired you to become a writer?

Andrew Snorton:
“My inspiration for writing starts at home. My mother, a retired educator, was a huge influence, as were classes like social studies and English, where I had to demonstrate a command of the writing process. A few books that deeply shaped my writing journey include Stride Toward Freedom by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Dr. Maya Angelou, As a Man Thinketh by James Allen, Before the Mayflower by Dr. Leronne Bennett Jr., Why Black People Tend to Shout by Ralph Wiley, and Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience by William Blake.

The range of their styles, the depth of their insights, and their ability to connect with readers all pushed me to step up my writing and use my voice more intentionally.”

Q: Tell us about your most recent release.

Andrew Snorton:
8 Months of Mercy is my most recent release (August 28, 2025). It’s an eight-month snapshot of navigating life’s challenges — from health to personal growth and beyond — all expressed through poetry. I chose poetic form because it makes the work more accessible while still maintaining authenticity and relatability.

The photography throughout the book is intentional too. One upside-down photo, for instance, reflects those topsy-turvy moments we all face, while others capture the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel. Together, the visuals and the words reflect the journey of turning the corner and finding yourself in a better space and place.”

Q: What advice would you give to aspiring authors?

Andrew Snorton:
“The first thing is to develop a habit of writing — whatever that looks like for you. Think about a goal you’ve achieved before and how you worked toward it. That same dedication applies here. Find the time of day and the space where writing feels most natural. You don’t need to write something publishable right away; at some point, a topic will keep you up at night, and that’s your real starting point.

Don’t feel like everything has to go into one book. Sometimes, appetizer-sized portions are more effective than a full entrée. And don’t be afraid to speak about what you’re passionate about. Book festivals, workshops, and speaking opportunities can open doors and connect you with readers.

Also, remember that criticism isn’t always about you — some people who critique your work haven’t even started theirs. Take what’s useful and keep going. And above all, be consistent with your marketing. It’s more than social media — it’s about being creative and persistent so the people who are looking for your work can find it.”

Q: Where can readers connect with you and follow your journey?

Andrew Snorton:
“The easiest way to connect with me is through linktr.ee/authorasnorton. There, you’ll find everything in one place — my social media platforms, website, Amazon author page, newsletter, archived media work, current media projects like the Lens2Pens Podcast, and a selection of interviews I’ve conducted.

My books and book-related items range from $10 to $20, making them accessible to a wide audience. In addition to my writing, I also offer the Author Andrew Snorton Blend coffee line, which gives readers and supporters another meaningful way to connect with my work beyond the page.”

Final Reflection

Andrew Snorton shows us that storytelling is far more than words on a page — it’s a powerful way to connect people, spark meaningful conversations, and build bridges across communities. Through his books, creative projects, podcast, and signature coffee line, Andrew extends the reach of his work well beyond traditional literature. His approach reminds us that stories can take many forms — written, spoken, shared over coffee — and all serve as pathways to deeper understanding and connection.
